About Me
Hello! My name is Nasreen Ahmed, a Licensed Professional Counselor in training under the supervision of Matthew Whalen, LPC-S, here at Changing Tides. I find joy in helping others, and I believe this to be an honor and my calling to continue to advocate for mental health care for those who really need it. It is of the utmost importance to me that my work is guided by the highest ethical standard provided by the American Counseling Association and abroad.
Education and Experience
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Florida Atlantic University and a Master’s Degree in Counseling from Lamar University in Texas. I have a background in the education field, in which I spent 17 years both as an educator and a counselor. I also have experience in the business field. I am able to provide a warm and inviting safe space for people of all ages who are in need of comfort and support.
How We Will Work Together
Building positive relationships and maintaining them is one of my skills I am proud of. For counseling skills-Trauma Informed practices is one of my specialties acquired via the Starr Commonwealth program where I learned how to work to heal trauma and build resilience in children, families, and communities through direct services. Integrating mindfulness practices such as meditation has been found to be very helpful in providing trauma informed care. It is also beneficial in reducing stress and promoting overall health. I am also able to implement CBT tools to help break negative thinking patterns and build helpful positive ones.
Why Me?
I am committed to serving everyone with respect, kindness, confidentiality, integrity, excellence, and accountability. I am a professional with ethical standards and best practice is at the core of all things I do. I understand the importance of providing a comforting safe space to those in need of an outlet, while simultaneously valuing cultural competency. Everyone deals with their own personal struggle, no matter how big or small; they deserve to express themselves freely. I believe all of us are capable of facing the challenges life throws at us, and I am able to empower growth through research based counseling skills and support. Together we can investigate self compassion as a powerful tool for coping and start your healing journey.
